Pure Ice review!

I got sent 3 free polishes from Pure Ice--Siren, No Means No & Strobe Light (black crackle).  This is the first polish I've ever been sent to review!  I haven't had any polish on since Saturday & I was thinking about either doing a blue skittle mani or Zoya Grace today since it's been 10 years since my Grandma Grace passed away, but I got these in the mail & thought they'd be perfect since my Grandma's favorite Skittles (as in the candy) were the red & purple ones.

Pure Ice Siren, No Means No & Strobe Light crackle
In the box along with the polishes was just a business card & a sheet of paper that had the same information on it along with my address so I'm not sure if these are older or newer polishes, but I *think* they are older (you can find them all online http://baricosmetics.com/List.aspx?type=NAILS&line=PUREICE).
I swatched Siren first--it's basically the perfect crayon red creme.  I only used 1 coat & it covered great, but if I was wearing this as a mani I would have used 2 coats.  I was worried that once I added the crackle that it would pull the red off my nails (as some of my crackle has done), but as you can see it didn't.
Pure Ice Siren. 1 coat no topcoat. Natural light, no flash.  Actual color closer to how the pinky looks.

Pure Ice Siren (1 coat) with Strobe Light crackle.  No topcoat.  Natural light, no flash.
This is the first time I've ever taken off polish just so I could swatch a different color, lol.  No Means No is a very pretty purple shimmer & you can see blue & some pink in the shimmer.  This took 2 coats & applied streaky at first, but evened out after the second coat.  I could have used another coat, but I wasn't wearing the mani & was adding crackle so I decided not to.  The crackle did pull the purple a bit & make it look lighter (not sure if you can see it in the pictures), but nothing horrible.
Pure Ice No Means No.  2 coats, no topcoat.  Natural light, no flash.

Trying to show the shimmer (I don't know why the picture flipped).

Pure Ice No Means No (2 coats) with Strobe Light crackle.  No topcoat.  Natural light, no flash.

Trying to show the crackle affect.
Overall I love these polishes even if red isn't a color I wear much.  Siren covered great, had a great drying time & was really pretty.  No Means No is a color I would wear & after 2 coats is beautiful.  I like the bit of shimmer in it.  Strobe Light is a great black crackle & I know I'll use it again.  It cracks great & dries fast.  As with all crackle I've used it does dry a bit dull so you'll have to add a topcoat to get shiny nails.
I know crackle polish isn't "in" right now, but do you still use it?  What are your favorite color combos you've done with crackle polish?

*The polishes in this post were sent to me for review.  I did not get paid to review them.*

200th Polish!

I got my 200th polish in the mail today!  Actually, I got 197th-200th.  It's POPBeauty Confetti Glitz--a purple, light purple & silver chunky glitter.  It's beautiful & I can't wait to wear it.  This is my first POPBeauty nail polish & I got it off of ebay.  I'm hoping to do a few post of all my polishes in the near future (Zoya makes up over 1/4 of my polishes).

Zoya Penny

I didn't really feel like painting my nails yesterday, but today I did.  I've got so many untried Zoyas & I really wanted to put on Apple, but I'm expecting to get Bevin, Skylar & Kimmy in the mail tomorrow & I know I'm going to want to wear Bevin this weekend (if not sooner) so I didn't want to put on another green so I grabbed Penny.  I love this color--it went on like a dream, had a fast drying time & is just wonderful.  I'm not really a gold person, but I've been loving copper for awhile & Penny is the perfect copper color.  I did 2 thin coats on all of my nails except my left thumb I just did 1 thicker coat (didn't mean to, my cat scared me, lol.  I don't think you can tell any difference though), all over 1 coat of L.A. Colors basecoat topcoat.

All the pictures are "natural light" coming through my living room window, lol.  Sorry, I don't know how to rotate the top 2 pictures.

Zoya Parveen

I ruined last night's mani & actually took it off before I left.  Today I decided to try on Zoya Parveen that I got in the mail yesterday.  It's part of the LE (I think) Zoya Bibhu Mohapatra box set along with Rekha & Zeenat.  I actually ordered this set more because I got free shipping & a free bottle of Zoya Sparkle Gloss Topcoat (which I've wanted, but haven't wanted to spend $9 on)--I didn't think I'd really care for the colors & I can say that I don't love them (my bf also kept saying how he hates the color).  On Zoya's website it says that Parveen is a "two-coat full coverage" polish, but that wasn't the case with me.  I had on a basecoat of L.A. Colors basecoat topcoat & then put on 3 coats of Parveen & it was still streaky & had bald spots.  I paint my nails with thin coats & this went on gloppy & was hard to work with.  I LOVE Zoya polishes, but this one just didn't work for me.  Guess I'll have to paint my nails for the third day in a row tomorrow (which I never do) & maybe I'll get lucky.

Julep Megan

I got Julep Megan in the January Maven box along with Hayden, Leah & the fast dry topcoat.  This is the first time I've used any Julep polish.  I started with L.A. Colors basecoat topcoat & then did two coats of Megan.  The first coat was pretty streaky & sheer, but after the second coat I think it evened out well & covered great even though you can see some brush strokes.  I could have probably put another coat of Megan on, but I decided to just put on the L.A. Colors basecoat topcoat (I'm getting ready to leave tonight & have a ton of stuff to do).  Sorry the pictures aren't the best, they're taken in artificial light.

Not sure what that bump on my middle nail is--might be a piece of glitter that I just took off.

(almost) Naked!

I just started this blog & here I am showing you my (almost) naked nails.  I don't really have much to say--I have natural nails (that are a bit stained, but growing out), I don't put any oils or anything on my cuticles, I only use lotion when my hands really need it, & I cut my nails when they break or when they bug me because they're so long.  I don't think I have the best looking nails ever, but I don't think they're nasty either.  In the picture I do have on a coat of L.A. Colors basecoat topcoat (I like the shine & for $0.97 or so it's a pretty good deal).

Welcome to my blog!

I'm hoping to use this blog to write about nail polish.  Some things to know about me so you don't get your hopes up too much (lol):
  • I live in a VERY small town in Wisconsin & there's hardly anywhere for me to get nail polish so I mainly order it.  This results in me not having many different brands.
  • My nails are real & I've never had them professionally done (& probably never will).
  • I'm not good at nail art & the few times I've tried stamping it hasn't worked the best (I'm hoping doing this blog will make me work on that).  This will mainly just be swatches/my mani.
  • Don't expect the latest & newest collections unless I start getting sent polish from companies for review (which would be AMAZING).
  • I don't change my polish all that often (once or twice a week)--I just feel like it's a waste to not wear a polish for awhile.  This will probably result in me updating the blog about once a week or so.
  • My camera/picture taking skills aren't the greatest, but I'll get the best pictures I possibly can.
  • I'm doing this for FUN, I'm not a professional by any means.
  • I don't really care for trends & I wear polish that I like.
  • My middle name is Denise & for a bit when I was younger my friends gave me the nickname "Denny" (which I kinda loved), hence the blog name.
