First off I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who's following my blog.  Yes, 50 followers is nothing to some bloggers, but it's WAY more than I ever thought I'd have (to be honest I'm one of my "followers", but who cares, lol).
As a thank you to my followers I would like to have a little giveaway, but--& this is IMPORTANT--I don't want you to share this giveaway.  Yes, I would like more followers, but I don't just want them to follow me just because I'm giving something away.
This giveaway will be open from 4/27/2012 until 5/4/2012 & is open to US residents only (sorry!).  The winner will have 24 hours to email me their address or else I will choose a new winner.  If I get more than 60 followers/entrants I will cancel the giveaway as I will know it's been leaked/shared.

Matte & Sparkles

I think the Zuza/Stick 'n Stones mani I had on since Saturday is one of my favorites ever.  I hadn't had any chips or anything, but I did go bowling & some of my right hand nails got messed up because of it so I decided to put N.Y.C. Matte Me Crazy over the mani to see how it'd look:

I love Matte Me Crazy!  I love the feel of the matte polish also, lol.
After I scrubbed off this mani I decided to throw on Sinful Colors Unicorn (a light, pastel yellow that took 3 coats to cover without streaks) that I just bought & then sponged Zoya Pippa (a yellow creme)over it & added POPBeauty Confetti Glitz (purple, light purple & silver hex glitters in a clear base).  The glitters took a bit of moving around since the brush is very thin & the glitters tend to clump, but I love the polish & I love the combo of yellow & purple!

Sinful Colors haul

As many of you know Walgreens is having a $0.99 Sinful Colors sale thru April 28th so when we were coming back from my bf''s Grandma's Sunday we stopped so I could see what was there (when you live in a small town you've gotta make every trip somewhere a nail polish shopping trip, lol).  These are what I picked up:
Sinful Colors Glass Pink, Unicorn, Pink, Summer Peach, Neon Melon & Pure Ice Black Light Top Coat
I haven't seen the Pure Ice Black Light Top Coat (even though the sticker on the bottom says Back & not Black) on any blogs & I couldn't even really find anything when I googled it.  Sure, I'm not in black lights hardly ever, but it's different & even just in the sunlight (the uv rays) you can see a slight purple tint (in the bottle at least, I haven't used it on my nails yet):

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y (Night!) mani

I was so happy that I got to order a bottle of Sticks 'n Stones from Ninja Polish when they restocked it this week & even happier when it arrived Friday!  It's my first indy polish even though I have a list of ones I would love to own (just like many of you, I'm sure).
Sticks 'n Stones by Cover Band Lacquers
Today (Saturday) I also got a thank you package from The Nail Junkie because I sent her my bottle of Wet n Wild Vampish Red that she was looking for.  She sent me Julep basecoat & cuticle oil along with some other goodies.  Here's a link to her blog post with the polish in it: http://www.thenailjunkie.com/2012/04/mail-call-and-my-collection-spam.html.
Thank you Aleta!
I can't believe I didn't do a mani with SnS yesterday, lol, but I waited until today (mostly because I was just too lazy).  I decided to use the Julep basecoat & then add 2 coats of Zoya Zuza which a a turquoise/teal polish with gold & silver shimmer (had just a bit of a problem with it pulling, but it was probably because I was using thinner coats & sitting by an open window which was drying the polish--I had to shut the window).  I don't think that Zuza looks like a "foil" like it says on the Zoya website, but I still love it, it's a beautiful color.  I added a coat of Julep fast dry topcoat & then a layer of SnS with the Julep basecoat on top (I've read where fast dry topcoats can make the glitters curl & I was too lazy to go get a different topcoat, lol).  This combo is AMAZING--reminds me of the 50s (not that I was alive mind you, but you know what I mean).
Zoya Zuza & Sticks 'n Stones
A righty picture, that's how  much I love this combo, lol.
**Just placed my Zoya Earth Day order (& promised my bf I wouldn't order any more Zoyas for 6 months)!

A mani of firsts

When I started painting my nails the other day I had no idea what I was going to do with them.  I grabbed OPI I Don't Give A Rotterdam! because when I first got it I was kinda blah about it, but then I realized that it's close to Zoya Skylar & I really like that color (in the bottle at least, I haven't tried it yet).
2 coats OPI I Don't Give A Rotterdam! over 1 coat Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening Base & Top Coat
I actually really love this color.  It's a dusty blue (gray-blue) with silver shimmer.  It's been a bit rainy & cold here so this color was perfect.
Last night while watching a movie with my boyfriend & son (who turned 9 yesterday!) I decided to try & do a half moon mani (my first).  I used the reinforcement stickers cut in half to "tape off" the "moon" portion & then sponged (for the first time) Sinful Colors Grecian Sun on the rest of the nail.  I showed my boyfriend & he said he couldn't tell what I'd done (men!) so I added some dots in Zoya Trixie (this is one of my top 3 Zoyas) & also added a "tip" in Trixie to my middle nail just to see if I could with my dotting tools (I have an idea for a future mani & wanted to see if it'd work that way).  I like how it turned out even if it is subtle (I'll probably do this again using colors that aren't so close).
Half moons with sponged color & dots
This morning I decided to try & use my new stamping plates (that I *had* to get for the turtle stamp) & add a couple stamps to my nails.  My first try didn't get rid of enough of the excess polish & the stamp didn't turn out the best, but my second try (on my pinkie) was a lot better:
stamp from plate SE20 from the Salon Express stamping kit
Salon Express stamping kit
I need to stamp more so I can one day do a full mani, I just always think I'm going to ruin a good mani w/ crappy stamping, lol.
Here's all the polishes I used:
Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening Base & Top Coat, OPI I Don't Give A Rotterdam!, Sinful Colors Grecian Sun, Zoya Trixie, white stamping polish
My mani of firsts--using I Don't Give A Rotterdam!, Grecian Sun, white stamping polish, Salon Express stamping kit, half moon mani & sponging!  Hope you like it, I actually like it a lot more than I thought I would!

Mini OPI haul (not mini polishes)

I've really wanted the whole Nicki Minaj collection from OPI ever since I first saw it online & besides Metallic 4 Life I hadn't gotten any & the salon I go to was sold out so I finally checked my local JCPenney store & they had them all except Pink Friday (which I find just a bit funny since it goes to show that where I live only the "safe" color--a.k.a. pink--was sold out & ALL the Metallic 4 Life were still there) so I picked up Fly, Save Me & Did It On 'Em--I didn't pick up the Super Bass shatter because I didn't know the polishes were on sale for $6 if you bought more than 2 (kicking myself now for *trying* to be thrifty).  I also got Mermaid's Tears because it was marked down to $4.25.  I should have spent a few more minutes looking through the polish (not that they have very many), but I *hate* how everyone from the people who work in the salon to the customers were just staring at me--leave a girl & her nail polish alone!

Nail mail! (Zoya Zoya Zoya!)

This is actually the nail mail I got from Friday & Saturday, but I was at my in-laws for Easter.  Most of the polishes are Zoyas that I bought from www.zoya.com (along with the Remover +) & the Orly polish is from www.copious.com from when I signed up & got $10 free credit so the polish only cost me $0.01 (they make you pay at least $0.01).
Zoya Shelby, Arizona, Tracie, Meg, Wednesday, Zuza, Dea & Orly Emberstone & 2 Zoya Remover + pump bottles

Speaking of Zoya--they are having a great promotion--if you don't have an account use my link to sign up & get a free bottle of polish (just pay shipping)! If you would also like to get free shipping just add 2 more bottles of polish to your order (basically buy 2 get 1 free + free shipping)! Zoya has many beautiful colors to choose from & is free of toluene, formaldehyde, DBP (phthalates) and camphor so it's safe for kids & pregnant ladies.

Also--my Brady Bunch inspired mani all came off when I showered, peeled off in big strips.  I don't know if it was the basecoat not working with the Pure Ice polish or what (I've never had it happen before that I can remember with other basecoats), but the next time I use Pure Ice I won't be using L.A. Colors basecoat (I haven't had it peel that way with other brands over the L.A. Colors basecoat either).

Here's the story...

I love love love the Brady Bunch even though it was on before I was born.  I always had a crush on Peter (Christopher Knight's still hot).  Anyway, I've always wanted to do a Brady Bunch inspired mani & I really love what I came up w/.  Even when I asked my bf what it reminded him of when he came home from work he said "the Brady Bunch".

(sorry, I don't know how to rotate the pictures!)

polish used for the mani
I started off with a coat of L.A.Colors basecoat topcoat, 2 coats Pure Ice Wild Thing, 1 coat Pure Ice Rescue Me (could have left this off, but maybe it'll glow tonight, lol), 1 coat Pure Ice Crushed (the crackle then added the flowers in Zoya Kiki, Zoya Pippa, Zoya Robyn, Zoya Mira, Zoya Purity & topped everything in Zoya Sparkle Gloss topcoat.

Trying out my dotting tools & dupe comparison

Holy crap, 2 post in 1 day, lol!  Part of me really wanted to try out my dotting tools & part of me really wanted to see if Julep Sofia & Pure Ice Rescue Me are dupes...
First up is my dotting tool try outs.  I actually don't think I did that bad!  I think I'm really going to enjoying using them.  Even my boyfriend said "They look really good, I like the flower the best."  My base color is Zoya Rica & my thumb, middle & pinkie fingers got a coat of NYC Matte Me Crazy (which I LOVE--it's cheap & I'll probably buy another bottle because I love seeing how different polishes look matte & I love the feel of them.) & my pointer & ring fingers got a coat of Sally Hansen Rock Candy.  I used all Zoya colors after that to do my designs--Rekha (red), Pippa (yellow), Jo (blue), Savita (matte purple) & Purity (white).

After I took that off I wanted to see if about Sofia & Rescue Me.  I did 2 coats of each on my bare nails & then decided to swatch them over Purity to see them better (I didn't let Purity dry as much as I should so it's a little messed up--sorry).  Can you tell which color is which or if there's any difference?
1 coat Pure Ice Rescue Me over Zoya Purity, 1 coat Julep Sofia over Zoya Purity, 2 coats Rescue Me alone, 2 coats Sofia alone

In all honesty I think these are close enough to be considered dupes.  Rescue Me might be a tad darker if anything.  Considering I like getting the best deals possible when it comes to polish (or I try at least) I'd pick Rescue Me over Sofia any day--Rescue Me is around $1.99 for a .5 fl oz bottle & Sofia is $14 for a .27 fl oz bottle.
On a side note--I am SO excited that today is Opening Day in baseball!  Go Red Sox!

New polish & a dupe alert

Last night we had to run to Walmart to pick up a few things & even though my son & boyfriend roll their eyes & make fun of me for always looking at polish (they do the same thing with video games!) I still went & looked, lol.  I did find a couple polishes:
Sally Hansen Rock Candy & Pure Ice Rescue Me
From the moment I saw Rescue Me I was thinking that it REALLY looked like it could be a dupe for Julep Sofia:
Pure Ice Rescue Me & Julep Sofia

Sorry the "macro" sucks on my camera!
I haven't swatched these yet because I still have on Rica & besides a couple minor chips it still looks great (thinking of maybe trying out my dotting tools on it), but from what I can see they are dead on.  They both glow in the dark, have blue micro glitter (that I hope you can see in the pictures) & also have a clear/pink looking glitter that I saw when they were in the sun.  I will make sure to swatch these side by side once I take off Rica.  Does anyone else own both of these & think they're dupes?

Zoya Rica, nubs & nail supplies

Last Thursday when I went to take off my nail polish (OPI Metallic 4 Life over Wet N Wild Ebony Hates Chris that I wore for state wrestling--& LOVE, but didn't get pics of) I noticed that my right pointer finger had a chip in the middle of my nail & then I saw that my nail somehow got cracked & it's over my finger.  I've cut my nails down, but the break is still there.  I'm hoping I can let my nails grow out & then cut them again without the break getting worse & causing me pain.  :o(
Anyway--here's my mani from this weekend.  I did this on Friday night & didn't take a pic until today so I'm sorry if it doesn't look the best.  2 coats of Zoya Rica over 1 coat L.A. Colors basecoat topcoat, no topcoat over it.  I've had Rica for awhile & I love the color (pink/orange with gold shimmer/sparkle), but haven't used it until now--it's pretty much the perfect formula.  2 coats covered fine & I hardly have any wear, but 3 coats may have been a little better.  Even my boyfriend said "I like that color, sometimes it looks pink & sometimes it's orange."
Zoya Rica on my nubs :o(
Today I got some nail supplies in the mail I ordered off of ebay.  Dotting tools, glitter, heart flakies & half pearls--all for under $5.  Can't wait to use these (I REALLY wanted the dotting tools), but please don't expect any amazing nail art--I'm not very artistic, lol.
