"Halloween" nails

A quick blog post today (I'll try to get another up later on for the last Go Pink Wednesday) showing my "Halloween" nails--I actually did these on Saturday for my Halloween costume--I was a "happy little tree" & my husband was Bob Ross!
I was trying to make my nails look like tree leaves turning colors--I think they turned out really well.  & to be honest, I cheated & put this over my pink Wednesday nails that I still had on.  So, on top of my pink mani is OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys (brown) & then I sponged on Zoya Karina (red) & Pippa (yellow) & Pure Ice Poker Face (orange) & Vegas Strip (green).

Also, congrats goes out to Melanie S. who won my giveaway!  I'll be sending out the prize soon & I hope she enjoys it!

Black & Wow

Today I have a quick post showing you the mani I did on Saturday & had on until yesterday's pink Wednesday.

I started with 2 coats of Zoya Storm & then I added 1 thick-ish coat of KleanColor Chunky Holo Black over it.  I wish I could capture the rainbow color shifting loveliness of this, but my camera sucks & the sun hasn't really been out for a few days here.  I got so many compliments on this from ladies at bingo, the bar & when I had to get my cholesterol & whatnot checked (also got asked if they were fake & had the lady tell her friend "she said they're her real nails & she just painted them", lol).  I know I'll be trying this same combo with Zoya Aurora & KleanColor Chunky Holo Bluebell (I don't have purple).
*Don't forget to enter my giveaway, there's still about 4 1/2 days left!

Go Pink Wednesday!

I misses last Go Pink Wednesday & today's post is going to be short, but it's still Wednesday!

Today's nails are simple yet pretty:
China Glaze Exquisite with Make A Spectacle
I used 3 coats of China Glaze Exquisite from their United In Purpose collection--the formula is perfect & the color is a lighter pink shimmer with white shimmer in it.  I love this color.  I did 1 coat of China Glaze Make A Spectacle on my ring & middle fingers for an accent.

Let's Have A Giveaway!

As a thank you to all of my followers here on my blog (SO close to 100!) & on my Facebook page (over 125!) I am having a giveaway, but the prize is a surprise.  I really do hope that the winner will like it & at least comment on my blog & let everyone know what they got (or write a small blog/Facebook post on it).

Anyway, it will be from 12:01 am on Oct. 21 until 12:01 am on Oct. 31.  Both of these dates are special to me--my paternal Grandma & Grandpa got married on Oct. 21, 1950.  My Grandma was always the person who meant the world to me & I've missed her like crazy the last 10+ years since she passed away (I have a tattoo on my wrist of her first name in her handwriting).  I never got to know my Grandpa because he drowned when my dad was only 3, but I have been told that he really loved my Grandma.  October 31 is Halloween of course, but it's also my mom's birthday & I make her homemade lasagna every year.

*Open to US residents only--sorry to everyone not in the US, but I'd rather not deal with sending polish out of the country.
*I'm not responsible if the package gets damaged on its way to you (I honestly hope it doesn't!).
*The winner will be chosen within 48 hours of the giveaway closing & will have 24 hours to respond back.  If the winner does not respond within 24 hours I will choose a new winner until the prize is claimed.

Influenster Beauty Blogger VoxBox 2012

Today I'm going to step out of my normal nail polish world  show you the contents of my Influenster Beauty Blogger VoxBox 2012!

I haven't learned 100% how to navigate through the new site, but from what I can tell it works pretty well.  I don't see why my score doesn't go up even after I don't reviews and whatnot, but I've read that a lot of people are having trouble with that.  If any of you are honestly interested in signing up please send me your email--I think I have 5 invites to use.

My first Influenster box!

Contents of the Influenster Beauty Blogger VoxBox 2012

Starting off we have NYC New York Color IndividualEyes Custom Compact in Dark Shadows( $4.99):
The card that came in the box listing each item has this written on it: "This all-in-one compact comes with everything you need for a complete eye look: primer, illuminator, applicator and complementing shadows.  With four colors, specially coordinated to intensify and enhance your eye color, you can create a look as individual as you are.  Make your eyes pop!"

To be honest I suck at putting on/using makeup.  I normally don't even wear it unless I'm going out or something & then it's a basic eyeshadow, mascara & some mineral foundation (or whatever it's called, lol).  I did apply these eyeshadows this morning (using the directions that are on the back, which I really like) & even though I think it looks like I have 2 black eyes, I've kept them on for the past 7 hours & they're staying pretty well.  The one thing I really don't like is the applicator--is there any way to actually make eyeshadow look good with those little sponges?  These are super pigmented & I think they would be best for teens & females who want to try new makeup looks with spending a ton of money.
NYC IndividualEyes Dark Shadows swatched on the back of my hand

Next up is the Kiss Ever Pro Lashes Starter Kit ($5.99):
Here's what the card says: "Bring the salon home with this eyelash starter kit, complete with eyelashes, adhesive, and applicator.  This latex-free glue has a 24-hour hold, for lashes you can bat all day and all night."

I've worn false lashes once in my life & that was about 9 years ago for Halloween.  The funny thing is, I was planning on wearing false lashes this Halloween & now I have 3 sets (none that I've bought).  I plan on wearing these for Halloween since they're the fullest so I'll let you know how they were after I wear them.

Bath & Body Works Mini Candles in Mahogany Teakwood ($3.50):
"Mini but mighty!  Bath & Body Works Mini Candles provide an amazing fragrance experience exclusively developed and tested by a team of Home Fragrance experts, including the world's best master perfumers."

The scent of this candle isn't something I would normally pick out, but it isn't bad.  I haven't lighted it yet (with 3 cats  we need to watch candles), but the scent is strong yet not overpowering.  I also got sent a $10 3 wick candle which I'd love to use, but the closest B&BW is over an hour from me & I'd rather not order a candle online when I don't know what it smells like & I'd have to pay for shipping--a trip to Madison might be coming this weekend or next (I haven't used my Sally's birthday coupon this month & it's my actual birthday month).

EBOOST in orange ($28 for box of 20 effervescent powders, $39 for box of 30 effervescent powders, $39 for box of 12 shots):
"EBOOST will boost your mood, focus, and immunity with natural ingredients and no crash.  As a shot or an easy-to-mix powder and in four flavors, you'll feel great whether you choose Orange, Pink Lemonade, Acai Pomegranate, or Super Berry."

I don't take stuff like this ever, I just never know if it has extra caffeine which gives me huge headaches if I have too much.  I'm going to have my husband take this & let you know what he says.
**Our son & I both took a sip before my husband drank it--it tastes like salty orange to me; my son said it's okay, but the after taste is gross & my husband said it's okay, but tastes like the orange stuff they use to clean your teeth.

Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin ($7.29):
"Never have the time for a great updo?  Not  anymore!  the Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin allows you to easily achieve three chic updo styles.  Simply twirl your hair up and spin the two Spin Pins in for a perfect undone bun, side bun or double bun!"

I'm not even going to take these out of the package, not because I don't think they would work, but because I have very fine, straight hair & it's in a chin length bob--I know I don't have enough hair for these.  Goody does have a set of 3 smaller Spin Pins that I might buy to try out because I think they'd work better with my hair.  This will be going into my swap items.

Not Your Mother's Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream ($6.00 for full sized 4-oz bottle):
"Kinky Moves is infused with natural grape seed & jasmine to encourage natural curls and eliminate frizz and fly-aways."

Like I said above, my hair is very fine & straight so I would never use this.  Even though it's not opened it still smells really good.  This will also be going up for swap.

I did receive a bonus item with my box.  The Vitabath Fragrance Mist in Green Tea & Sage (no price on the card, but on their website they are $9.99):
"Vitabath presents a new line of lightweight Fragrance Mists in 16 fabulous scents.  This revitalizing, weightless formula is infused with conditioning vitamins ans a unique antioxidant blend to keep your skin refreshed and happy.  Smell absolutely delicious with Vitabath!"

This mist, which isn't a scent I would normally pick out, has a strong (not overpowering) scent that lasts for hours.  The green tea is present when first sprayed, but I can't smell it after a few minutes.  The mist does leave your skin feeling softer & the smell isn't sickly sweet like some mists that smell like only teens should wear them.  I would really like to try a different scent that I might actually use daily like Luscious Lemon Creme or Pomegranate & Blood Orange.

Overall I'm very happy with the products I received & I hope that I get to review other boxes from Influenster.

Zoya Ornate Collection

I was so surprised (& honored) last week to get an email from Zoya saying that I could get the entire Ornate Collection for review!
The Zoya Ornate Collection can be found here for $8 each.
Zoya Ornate Collection
Zoya Ziv

Zoya Ziv

Zoya Ziv
Ziv is a gold foil with silver shimmer.  I used 2 coats for full coverage & no topcoat.  I'm not a big yellow gold person, but I can see myself wearing this polish, it's honestly the best gold polish I've ever owned.

Zoya Logan

Zoya Logan
Logan is a festive forest green foil with gold shimmer.  I used 3 coats for full coverage & no topcoat.  Green is my favorite color & I do like the polish, but I wish a company would make a green with shimmer that ISN'T gold.  A blue or pink or purple shimmer would be very nice (& unique).  I would have rather seen this polish have the micro holographic glitter like the next 3 polishes do--I think green polishes get the short end of the stick a lot of the time.

Zoya Blaze

Zoya Blaze
Blaze is a raspberry red jelly-like polish with micro holographic glitter.  I used 3 coats for full coverage & no topcoat.  I do think that the holographic glitter sinks a bit in this polish when it's on the nail, but it is still very sparkly & pretty.

Zoya Storm

Zoya Storm

Zoya Storm--blurry to show glitter
Storm is a black based polish with tons micro holographic glitter.  I used 3 coats for full coverage & no topcoat.  This polish is a very "wearable" black--it's not too dense in color & the holographic glitter shows amazingly.  I'm sure I'll be wearing this one a lot.

Zoya Aurora

Zoya Aurora

Zoya Aurora--blurred to show glitter
Aurora is a plum based polish with tons of micro holographic glitter.  I used 3 coats for full coverage & no topcoat.  This is probably my favorite of the collection as well as my husband's.
Zoya Electra over Storm, Aurora, Logan, Blaze & Ziv
Electra is a clear based polish with small holographic bar glitter.  I used 1 thick coat & no topcoat.  Zoya describes this polish as "a micro fine diamond holographic glitter mixed with large silver holographic bar tinsel in a clear base", but there is no micro fine diamond holographic glitter in the mix--when I didn't see it on the nail I swatched a bit on a piece of white paper & there's nothing except bar glitter.  This polish isn't very unique, but it is pretty, but you can find basically the same thing from a drugstore polish.

All in all I really liked this collection.  I do wish Zoya would change Electra & add in the micro holographic glitter so it's a little more unique.  Which ones will you be getting?
*These polishes were sent to me for my honest review.

"This Is Halloween" zombies

Today's "This Is Halloween" Nail Art Challenge is zombies.  My husband, son & I just watched "Shaun of the Dead" so I guess I was in the zombie mood, lol.
zombie nails--inside, artificial light

zombie nails--outside, cloudy natural light
When I started these I fully intended on making faces or whatnot on them, but once I had the skin done I loved how it looked & wanted to leave it.  For the base I sponged on 2 coats of China Glaze Westside Warrior mixed with Pure Ice Kiss Me Here.  I thought it looked a bit too dark so for the third coat I mixed Kiss Me Here with China Glaze Trendsetter & sponged it on.  I then sponged on just a bit of Zoya Rekha for the blood spots.  I topped everything with NYC Matte Me Crazy since I figured matte was a better finish than shiny when it comes to zombie skin.  These have also made me have the song "Zombie" by the Cranberries stuck in my head, lol.
Check out Pretty & Polished Pointers to see more zombie nails.

"This Is Halloween" jack-o-lanterns

Jack-O-Lantern day in Pretty & Polished Pointers' "This Is Halloween" Nail Art Challenge.  First I'll show you my ombre orange nails:
L-R: Essie Orange, It's Obvious!; Zoya Coraline; Essie Fear or Desire; Zoya Arizona
I used 3 coats of each polish & topped it with Diamond Dry topcoat.  I did my "jack-o-lantern" faces like I used to when I was little.
I used Wet n Wild Black Creme & a dotting tool to create these.  I really suck at free hand stuff like this, lol.
My husband loves carving pumpkins--he'll take 2 hours or more on one.  I normally just pick a simple, cute design to carve, I don't really care for the smell of pumpkins (& I don't eat them).  What the best design you've carved?

Go Pink Wednesday--Oct. 10

Today is the second Go Pink Wednesday!  My mani today is dedicated to my cat Hannah.  This might sound a bit weird, but let me show you why:

She's my sweet black & white cat who rocks her pink collar & pink ribbon tag.  Here's a little info about her before I show you my mani:
~we adopted her & our other 2 cats a little over 2 years ago from the shelter, she's around 3
~she used to get beat up by a cat named Simon at the shelter, one of the reasons I wanted her
~she's short & stocky (weighs a little over 10 lbs) & has small paws & needle-like claws
~she loves cat treats & human food (really likes cheese) & stands up on her back legs to beg
~it took her 15 months to lay on my lap & not just next to me, but now she does it all the time

Now onto the (simple) mani!
Orly Flirty--no topcoat

Orly Flirty--no topcoat

Orly Flirty--no topcoat

Orly Flirty--with topcoat
I have on Orly Flirty--a bright (neon?) pink with soft purple & white shimmer.  I used 3 coats because I had a couple bald spots, but I could have gotten away with 1 if I used a bit thicker coats.  Flirty dries to a suede/rubber finish.  The top picture shows the white shimmer the best, the second picture shows the finish the best, the third one shows the purple shimmer the best & the bottom one shows it shiny with topcoat (1 coat of Diamond Dry).
This last picture shows my complete fail at trying to stamp on tips.  I tried a few different ways & I just couldn't get it to stamp on straight/centered.

"This Is Halloween" ghost

Today in the "This Is Halloween" Nail Art Challenge from Pretty & Polish Pointers is ghosts.  I really wanted to do something really fun & unique, but I'm not that creative or artistic so I ended up doing what I think of as "basic ghosts".

The one good thing about this type of ghost is that it would be hard to mess it up, lol.  I used Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat (white) & Wet n Wild Ebony Hates Chris (black) & just "drew" them with my dotting tool.  Not very creative, but they're cute.  If I did them again I'll put a base color on first.

Rainbow Honey The Yokai review

Today's nail mail was some new LE polishes from Rainbow Honey to review--how lucky am I?

The Yokai is a collection of 3 LE polishes that will be available starting October 13.
Rainbow Honey Oni, Kitsune, Kawako

First up is Oni (The Malevolent Wild Demon):
Rainbow Honey Oni

Rainbow Honey Oni

Rainbow Honey Oni
Oni has a black/brown/green base with tons of gold/green & silver shimmer.  I didn't see the silver shimmer until I was outside & even on this very cold, overcast day the shimmer popped.  This polished applied amazingly well & I did 3 coats with no topcoat.
Next up is Kawako (The Mischevious River Child):
Rainbow Honey Kawako

Rainbow Honey Kawako

Rainbow Honey Kawako

Kawako has a dark blue base packed with silver/white & light blue shimmer.  In the bottle I could see some iridescent flakies, but they didn't show up on the nail at all.  That's fine with me because this polish is gorgeous & applied amazing.  I used 2 coats with no topcoat.
Last, but not least is Kitsune (The Magical White Fox):
Rainbow Honey Kitsune

Rainbow Honey Kitsune

Rainbow Honey Kitsune
Kitsune has a light yellow base packed with gold shimmer, tiny red glitter & small holographic glitter.  It sort of reminds me of ground mustard (& yes, that is a compliment--I LOVE mustard, & so does my husband & son.  None of us even eat ketchup).  This one was a bit thicker than the others, but still applied great.  I used 2 coats with no topcoat.  The only "bad" thing about these polishes is that the shimmer sticks to your skin when you take off the polish, but that happens with all shimmers.  I just use a sugar scrub to help remove it.
I'm honored to be part of the review for these polishes & I hope that I did them justice.  Kawako is my favorite, what's yours?
*These polishes were sent to me for my honest review*
